Open Burn Ordinance

Under Ordinance 201, open burning within Hulmeville Borough is not allowed. The use of a cooking device burning wood, charcoal, or other recognized solid or gaseous fuel to cook food is allowed. For specific instances, a burn permit can be obtained from the Fire Marshal that will allow burning of wood or other approved fuel in an approved burn area. A fee will apply. The burning must be done between the hours of 8:00 am and 8:30 pm. Click here to obtain a burn permit application and additional details on the open burn permit requirements.

Fire Safety Inspection Program

Commercial properties within the Borough are required to have a fire safety inspection (FSI). A FSI is conducted prior to occupancy of a building by a commercial tenant and then on approximately an annual basis.

FSI's are scheduled by the Fire Marshal. However, to schedule a FSI at a date and time most convenient to you, a request can be made to the Fire Marshal. Please allow sufficient time from the date of your request to schedule the inspection.

Code Enforcement

Hulmeville Borough has adopted the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code (UCC), which includes a state-wide fire code. The UCC and related codes are based on the International Building (IBC) and International Fire Codes (IFC). The current editions of the IBC and IFC in effect in Pennsylvania are the 2018 edition. Fire safety inspections, new building construction reviews, building modifications, etc., are based on these codes. If you have any questions about how the code may be interpreted and applied to a specific situation, feel free to contact the Fire Marshal's office.
